3 Fixes for Managing Hot Flashes

Ever been in an especially crowded room, or in your workplace talking to your boss, when suddenly you feel a hot flash coming on?  If you're like me, you've been in these situations, and let me tell you, it's not a comfortable thing.  Especially if you are trying to enjoy the company of your family Hot flashes in my experience hit you anytime after the age of 50 years old, and with some of us, they pretty much hang around for years to come.  It depends though.  They say hot flashes are hereditary.  But hot flashes don't have to control your life, and it's not always necessary to take hormone therapy.  Below are my 3 Fixes for Managing Hot Flashes that I find pretty effective.

#1 Keep A Small Hand-held Fan Available

It's a good idea to keep a small hand-held, battery-operated fan both at home and in your purse.  This is a great ready-to-use remedy when you feel a hot flash coming on.  I have found these small fans online or at the Dollar store very cheaply.  It also wouldn't hurt to keep one on your bedside table as well.  I find that I get most of my hot flashes at night when I lay down to go to sleep, and having that fan right there to use at a moments notice is great.

#2 Keep An Ice pack Handy

I suggest buying a Gel ice pack that you can pull out of the freezer at a moment's notice, and put it on the back of your neck.  I find that when I have hot flashes, the part of my body that burns the worst is my back, and the back of my neck.  Believe me, just putting that ice pack on the back of your neck makes all the difference in the world.  Especially when you're trying to sleep at night!

#3 Refrain From Stressful Situations

Last, but not least, try to refrain from getting into stressful situations as best you can.  I know this is not an easy one because we all know "life happens".  I find that when I get really stressed out, the hot flashes come frequently.  So if there is no way for you to refrain from stressful situations that can trigger these hot flashes, then the next best thing is to take heart and keep that hand-held fan and icepack available to keep your comfort level in the zone!
