7 Steps to a Healthier You

Hey there Readers!  Ever thought about how to "get back on the wagon" once the holidays are over?  I can tell you from experience that getting back into healthy eating habits after you've just junked out during the holidays is not an easy task.  But there are small steps you can take to get back to a healthy eating routine.  Let me show you with these 7 Steps to a Healthier You!

#1 Change your Mindset

The first step to eating towards a healthier you is to change your mindset.  You need to reset your thinking about the way you eat before anything else can happen.  Don't be afraid to think outside the box.  Write down a list of positive outcomes you would like to achieve, and positive thoughts to help you do this.  Think of how much better you will feel and the health benefits you will achieve.  Once you set your mind to the fact that you are going to eat healthily, start taking the steps you need right away in order to make your healthier way of eating a reality.

#2 Empty Your Pantry

Pare down your pantry to eliminate unhealthy foods or temptations that could derail your progress.  Research articles on the Web to assist you in making better food choices.  There are plenty of recommendations out there for eating healthier but in my experience, if you are looking to lose weight, you should cut out bread, sugars, pasta, and dairy.  Don't panic, this is only temporary.  Being properly informed about alternatives to these things is the first step.  The alternatives include, for instance, drinking unsweetened vanilla almond milk instead of regular whole or two percent milk, and there are recipes out there that you can try for alternatives to bread, sugars or flours, and using a vegetable type noodle instead of pasta.  Once you lose the weight you can add these things back into your diet in moderation.

#3 Restock your pantry and fridge

Restocking your pantry and refrigerator will help a great deal.  Because you cannot eat what's not there right?  Restock with healthier foods such as vegetables, fruit, and healthy protein-rich foods, such as eggs, nuts, and include healthy fats such as avocados, will help you feel full between meals.  Following a healthful dietary path will help you reach your goal, and you will feel great in changing your food habits trust me!

#4 Set small goals to start

The first step is to decide what your end goal will be.  Then take it one small step at a time.  For instance, if you want to lose weight, say 50 pounds, you can decide to take it 10 pounds at a time.  Then give yourself a realistic timeframe for the first 10 pounds.  Give yourself a realistic number of days, or weeks that you expect to reach your 10-pound goal.  Losing 1-2 pounds a week is a healthy weight loss goal, and in the long run, you will be able to keep the weight off as long as you continue to eat healthily.

#5 Write your goals down on paper

Take steps to write down your goals on paper to make yourself accountable.  A great way to do this is to make up a goal journal with dates you wish to meet your short-term goals (i.e. 10-lb weight-loss) in addition to your long-term goals.  To record your weight-loss progress, for instance, add side columns with your starting measurements and weight.  This was a great tool for me to use during my weight-loss journey.  I could chart my progress, and see how far I come to reaching my goal, by checking my weight and measurements every 30 days.

#6 Set up an exercise regimen

Exercise is another piece of the puzzle in getting and staying healthy.  Move at least 20 minutes a day.  It doesn't have to be anything strenuous.  In fact, doing short spurts of exercise to get your heart pumping can do wonders in helping you keep active.  I've tried at least 5 minutes of leg lifts, or 10 minutes of walking, bending or stretching can help you feel much better.  Any movement of 5-10 minutes 2-3 times a day, each and every day, is a good start to improving your health.

#7 Find a good support system

Eating healthier can be a daunting task when starting out to attain your goals, so it really helps to have a good support system.  Let your friends and family know what you are doing.  Make sure they know just how important attaining this goal is.  Let them know what you can and cannot eat.  If you are working, enlist the support of your coworkers.  Chances are there is someone else at work that needs support as well.  Lean on each other to help support your goals!

Finding a healthy way to feeling better about yourself can be a bit difficult at the start.  But if you follow the suggestions above it will go a long way to helping you achieve a healthier you this year!  So get out there and start achieving a healthier you today!

5 Ways To Develop Your Talents

This post contains affiliate links.

Hello Friends!  With the New Year in full swing, a lot of us start thinking about the goals we'd like to accomplish.  Some of us might want to do some decluttering, or just get things in order around us.  But have you ever thought about developing a favorite talent and felt that you just never had the time?  Let me help you with 5 Ways To Develop Your Talents, that'll give you the kick start you need to develop those passions you've been searching for!

#1 Don't compare yourself to others

First and foremost, do not compare yourself to other people.  This is a big downfall that cripples most people before they ever get started.  You are a unique individual, and each individual has their own set of talents.  Take the time to figure out what your unique talents are, and then run with it.

#2 Believe in yourself

Believing in yourself will go a long way to propelling you forward to take action in developing your talents.  Changing the way you think will do wonders in developing your talents.  The inspiration is there, you just have to dig deep and find that awesome passion that's been there all along just waiting for you to grab it!

#3 Surround yourself with people who inspire you

Once you decide what your talents are, surround yourself with people who inspire you.  People who are running towards the same goal. People you can talk to about your passions.  Talking with people moving towards a common goal will inspire you to do the same.  It can be very exciting to dream your dreams out loud with someone else who wants the same thing.

#4 Use your failures to spur you onward

Although this sounds a little backward, using your failures to spur you onward  can be a plus.  Testing out different ideas, and trying different things, our failures help us realize what NOT to do to in the process.  It helps us to tweak the little things, and try something new.  It can help us to think outside the box, and develop new strategies towards our goals.

#5 Make time to develop your talents

Making the time to develop your talents is paramount in attaining it.  I know from experience that if you do not make the time, developing your talent is not going to happen.  Take at least 10-30 minutes a day, depending on your schedule, to work on moving toward development of your talent.  Repetition is what develops your talent.  The dream cannot come to fruition if it is not developed on a regular basis.

The time to work towards your goal is now.  So get out there, and develop your talents so you can build your dream!

Happy New Year to you all!  Were you able to stay up until midnight and ring in the New Year?  If you did, kudos to you all.  So you got through the holidays and rang in the New Year.  Did you make any New Year's Resolutions?  Most people mean well when they tell themselves that they are making a clean start to the year, and this will be the year that they accomplish all the things they told themselves they would do last year.  But as the year progresses, and I speak from experience, this becomes a daunting task for even the best of us.  Below are 3 Ways to Keep New Year's Resolutions!

#1 Make sure that your goal is realistic

Be sure that your New Year's resolutions you make are attainable.  Start small, and take it one step at a time.  Don't beat yourself up about your goals.  Each and each baby step you take towards your goals every day is a victory.  Start with a planned timeline of when you will attain this goal.  You may also make up a chart of your daily progress.  This will give you a visual of how much you've accomplished.  Celebrate each small victory that will help spur you on.

#2 Receive support from friends and family

Getting support from your family and friends can be paramount in accomplishing your New Year's resolutions.  It helps to keep you accountable so that you don't give up.  Keeping the name of a great friend or your close family on your speed dial to talk to when you really need it, can be the difference between giving up, and being spurred on to complete your resolutions.

#3 Treat yourself as you accomplish your resolutions

Allow yourself to celebrate each New Year's resolution accomplished by rewarding yourself with some simple pleasure that you really enjoy.  Go for a bike ride or a trip to the zoo.  Whatever it is you really think will make you happy, just do it.  Enjoying simple pleasures in life will help to spur you on to the next resolution you've made for yourself.

Regardless of how many resolutions you make, the goal is to improve your life in the coming year.  Whether it's changing a negative behavior or deciding to volunteer to help others if you commit to keeping your New Year's resolutions, it is sure to enhance your life and make it a happier one.  Good luck, and no matter what, keep reaching for the stars!
